St George’s Day event
SFB’s April event will be a celebration of English food and produce. Each course includes produce from local producers or the producers who are on the Presidia or Ark of Taste lists. This event is being held at the Devonshire Arms (see Blogroll for location details).

Ark of Taste event: Mersea bound
The boat trip to visit the oyster beds of Colchester was one of SFB’s most popular events of 2007. So, another trip has been arranged but with a bonus tasting and tour of the nearby Mersea Island’s vineyard.

National Apple Day, 14th October
Bromham Mill & Gallery will be hosting the annual celebration of the British apple this Sunday (11am – 4.30pm). Eat, drink, bob, press and buy local apples. There will also be experts on hand who can help you identify what type of apple your garden grows. There will also be storytelling, family art activities and puppet shows. You can even try the famous Bedfordshire clanger.

Bedford Beer & Cider Festival 2007
If you are looking for something to do this weekend, try the beer, cider and perry at the Corn Exchange. North Beds CAMRA has organised annual festivals since 1978.

Great British Cheese Festival
Slow Food Bedford’s next event is a trip to the British Cheese Festival on 29th September at Millets Farm Centre in Oxfordshire. As well as the attractions of the festival, Millets Farm Centre has a food hall, fishmonger’s and many other wonderful food havens to discover. If you would like to attend, please contact Sue as soon as possible because there will only be limited spaces available for this event. Event details

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness…
One of SF Bedford’s projects is to help promote the Parkwood Orchard, on Brickhill Drive, which is open to the public. Those members who have recently visited the site report is full of fruit. If you want to know more about this unusual collection of trees, the Parkwood Orchard catalogue has lots of details.
